It is the first Scorpions album since 1974 without Dieter Dierks producing. Rudolf Schenker’s reason: “We’d been together for too long and we felt we needed new energy.”
The new energy is Keith Olsen, who had worked with Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner and Whitesnake. He co-produces with the band: about eight weeks at his Goodnight L.A. studio, then mostly Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum, in the Netherlands. Jim Vallance, Bryan Adams’s co-writer, co-writes seven of the 11 tracks.
Vertigo / Mercury release it on 6 November 1990, their 11th studio album. It goes to No. 1 in Germany, No. 21 on the Billboard 200 and No. 27 in the UK, and double platinum in the US. The singles: Tease Me Please Me, Don’t Believe Her, Wind of Change, Send Me an Angel.
Klaus Meine, thirty years on: “It’s the last album from what I’d say was our golden period.”
